APPLAUSE! Supports All Three Orchestra Ensembles at OPRFHS

The OPRFHS Orchestra is one of the oldest curricular orchestras in the nation, founded in October 1907.

The high school still carries on the rich tradition of excellence with three curricular orchestras:

  • String Orchestra

  • Concert Orchestra

  • Symphony Orchestra

The orchestras perform four major concerts per year, with an international tour every other year.  Places visited by the orchestra include Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, and Spain.  The orchestra hosts an annual Concerto Competition, where three winners have the opportunity to perform their work with the orchestra.  The program holds auditions for the Illinois Music Education Association’ Conference (ILMEA) District 1 Orchestra and participates in the all day ILMEA Music Festival.

Last year, APPLAUSE! supported the Orchestra program by hiring adjudicators to listen to auditions, providing valuable feedback and a professional atmosphere for students.

it all comes together
Prisms of Winter Concert

Every December the OPRFHS Music Department presents this wonderful 90 minute evening of continuous music from the band, choir, and orchestra. Always a sell-out event, we advise you purchase your tickets in advance on RevTrak (available about a month before the performance date). Please arrive early to enjoy the pre-concert performances by small ensembles in the auditorium lobby, beautifully transformed by APPLAUSE! volunteers into a winter wonderland.

The Huskie Music Fest

The Huskie Music Fest is an annual event in October packed with performances of the Band, Orchestra and Choir ensembles. The evening is a fundraiser for APPLAUSE!, and supports all the performing arts programs.
